Quitting may be easy when one has been doing the right thing for so long, yet nothing appears to be changing. Why keep going? The picture to the right illustrates how close breakthrough really is. One thing is for sure, nothing will change if nothing is ever attempted. Michael Jordan may or may not hit the game winning shot, but he definitely will miss it if he does not walk out on the court.

You will win if you don’t quit. In Luke 11:5-10 Jesus teaches this principal:

Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:5-10 NIV)

Jesus demonstrates that if for no other reason, persistence will pay off just because it gets harder to ignore than it is to respond. Every time persistence is chosen over quitting, the persister is so much closer to the breakthrough. Persistence will weaken the wall in front of you. Constant chipping away will wear down any wall. Persistence will cause that which is being contended for to eventually break open.

Winning is inevitable, if quitting is not an option.
